From Brum To Big Smoke

Posted in Uncategorized at 11:15 pm by GaZ

yeah yeah, it’s been a while, but there hasn’t really been much happening around here. Hanne wrote her own mini-update so I didn’t bother regurtitating the same info.

This past weekend we escaped the hectic city life by going down to London to visit Nikolai… it’s such a quiet little town. On Saturday we went over to visit my brother as he and his housemates were having a big houseparty! W00t!! Amit also made an appearance before having to retire early, making some excuse about going to the airport to pick up relatives, early in the morning… pah ;-) I also managed to take a few pictures before the vodka took over. By the way, is it just me or is this Jacque’s long-lost English twin (the one in the middle)?

On Friday night, while relaxing in front of the tv with a hooka in one hand and a fat slice of pizza in the other (one of the best pizzas i’ve ever tasted, btw!), Nikolai introduced us to the funniest gameshow ever: Takeshi’s Castle. 100 contestants have to get through a series of challenges in order to storm the castle. One of my favourite challenges has to be Sumo Rings, in which each player picks a ball at random out of a box they can’t see into. The colour corresponds to which wrestler they fight and try to knock out of the ring. For instance, pick a purple ball and the contestant has to don a costume of a giant plum making it ridiculously easy for the opponent to push over, and laugh as he rolls off down the hill. A brown ball means the contestant has to fight a professional sumo wrestler, a yellow ball means a short skinny guy, etc. There are descriptions of all the tasks on the website. Now if only I could find some torrent files of the show…

Update: You can’t post images into comments, but I’ll list all the pictures from the results of the “Who Am I” quiz here.

Oh wow. I don’t think we can be freinds anymore. What is that filthy thing on his upper lip? Plus, I’d sooner die than be caught wearing a Southampton jumper.

Maybe we can be friends again, because I also love Takeshi’s Castle. In the US, they dub the guy in the safari hat with a French accent and his name is Guy LaDouche. Here, however, the show is called MXC (Most eXtreme Challenge). I am a big fan of “Floaters and Sinkers”, the mud football ctaching game, and the ones where you run across rolling pins. The episode where eveyeone is dressed in halloween costumes (costumes to look for: statue of liberty, totem pole, pea) is also priceless.

Ferdinand, are you drunk? I resent all of this nonsense. He looks nothing like me; he should be so lucky.

Ah, cheers Jacques! I found some torrents for the American version of the show! I’m not too keen on the US commentary though… in the English version it’s every competitor for him/herself, whereas MXC touts it as a team vs other team thing. Also, I don’t know if perhaps it was just the episode I saw, but in the English version if a competitor makes it to the final round (the storming of the castle) they have a bit where they have to drive around in those bumpercar spaceship things and squirt waterpistols at the Rainbow Guards (who also have their own high-powered waterpistols on their own cars), trying to burst a circle of tissue that’s on the front of each car… I have yet to see anyone win and actually storm the castle though. Anyway, regardless of the format, the painful humiliation of everyone involved in the show is always great.

According to this quiz, i’m General Lee!

ok, he did hit at least a couple of more branches on the way down in the ugly tree, but the resemblance is still very striking, hehe. Oh and Jacques, I still love you, hehe…. and I probably was as drunk as I am now.
