Halloween 2005
“Happy” Halloween!

*insert witty tagline here*
Hanne and I starting to settle down in our new place. There are still quite a few boxes and piles of mess around the house, so i’ll take pictures once all that is taken care of (ETA July 2007 at the rate I’m going).
Last weekend we got connected on broadband again…. “only” 2Mb this time, as opposed to the 8Mb in our last place, but the good news is that ADSL2+ should be rolling out at our local exchange around December, with downstream speeds advertised as high as 24Mb (though the actual amount will probably be somewhere between 10 – 20). Unfortunately upstream speeds, of course, will still be very limited. Pah.
Hesam sounds like he’s been really busy lately. In some of his recent work he talked about the use of meta-data in the “Semantic Web“, using FlickR and MappR as examples of how this movement is progressing. MappR looks cool but seems to be entirely focused on the USA. Having been looking through the Google Maps API recently I thought this would make the perfect combination with the FlickR API. By tagging the longitude and latitude of where a photo was taken a global map could be created with photos linked to precise geographic locations! Brilliant!
But, as usual, I’m a few months too late. Geobloggers.com had the very same idea AND they already launched (back in May). Gaahhh! Perhaps I could redo what they’ve already done, in my own style? But I suppose I wouldn’t be very motivated since it’s not that original an idea. Anyone have any suggestions for a spin-off project?
Oh well. I’m off to waste some time killing gooks, wogs, and yanks!
Hmm… so Rita was a bit of a none-event, eh? But that’s not to say it didn’t still cause a few upsets.
This weekend Hanne and I are moving house (yes, again!) for our first taste of life in Suburbia. This time we’re moving approximately 6 miles north east, to a place known as Erdington. Actually we’ll be just next to Erdington in Pype-Hayes. Hmm can’t find any decent links for that, so I’ll just take some pictures once we’re settled in.
We rented a nice big van to avoid having to make a zillion trips in our tiny Kia, and Nikolai came up from London to throw in an extra pair of hands, so now most of our stuff is over in our new place. Hanne and I will stay in our old place for the rest of this week since it’s right next to work, and to get the apartment nice and shiny again. I’m knackered from running around all day so that’s all for now.
