I want to Wii!
Nintendo caused quite a stir recently when they announced that the official name for their next console, code-named (until last week) “Revolution”, will be “Wii” (pronounced “we”). I can’t wait to hear the reviews from E3 (taking place in about 2 weeks) to see if the console and it’s radical new remote-style of controller can live up to it’s hype. If the reviews are favourable then I’ll be putting in my pre-order ASAP! I’m already eagerly anticipating the time the DS Lite hits UK shores, however it looks like i’m going to be waiting a few more months at least :’(
The touchscreen and microphone on the DS have opened up a whole world of crazy possibilites for game developers. A few examples:
Mario Kart DS: In Battle Mode you have a few balloons representing the number of “lives” you have left. You win the game by elminating everyone else’s balloons. However, you can only have 3 balloons inflated at any one time. If one pops and you have a balloon in reserve you have to inflate the balloon yourself by blowing into the microphone (or, as I discovered while at Ben’s house the other day, any low-pitched noise works pretty well).
Nintendogs: A 21st century tamagotchi kind of game in which you choose a virtual dog to develop from a puppy into a fully-grown mutt, teaching him tricks and commands along the way, patting / rubbing / slapping the touchscreen appropriate to reward / punish your dog as you see fit.
Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney: I haven’t actually seen this in action, but what I’ve heard sounds fun. You play an up-and-coming lawyer, working in a series of cases. When in the courtroom you can even shout things like “Objection!!” in to the microphone while the other team is making their case. lol.
Nintendo seem to have games for everyone on their consoles. Kinda makes me which I’d bought a Gamecube instead of an Xbox. Oh well… the time for the Revolution is coming!

Buy a PlayStation, not a Nintendo!
