Doh! Looks like it might take me a little longer than I thought to get my blogroll back. I was planning on just exporting an OPML file from Google Reader, however it appears there’s a bug in Wordpress 2.1 which prevents me from importing the file. The bug was only just raised last week so perhaps a patch or quickfix will appear within a few days, otherwise I’ll have to start tinkering with the code myself.

Simon Willison wrote an interesting entry on his blog the other day regarding disambiguated URLs. Simply put, ambiguous URLs are multiple URLs (e.g. Web addresses) which all point to the same resource. For example, you could try to reach this page using any of the following four:
The result is exactly the same, whichever you choose. Social bookmarking sites such as del.icio.us, however, don’t know this, and so of those links would be saved individually, resulting in diluted rankings with regards to popularity. I have therefore decided to champion the cause of no-www.org, by changing this website to a “Class B”-compliance domain. All this means is that anyone who tries to visit http://www.garethwestern.com will be gracefully redirected to http://garethwestern.com. Magic!

As Hesam mentioned, we’ve moved our websites over to a new host. Rather than muck about with my messy old setup, I decided to scratch the lot (except the blog entries and comments) and start with a nice, fresh installation of Wordpress 2.1! As you might notice, this means I’ve lost my blogroll, however I should get the links back up within a few days. Let me know if I’ve forgotten yours! I’ve also gotta decide what I’m going to do about the old photo Gallery. I can’t decide between FlickR or hosting it all myself.
In other news, Hanne and I have just returned from a weekend in Wales, after celebrating a recent promotion at work. w00t! Everything else is going swimmingly.
