Great Wales Run 2007

Posted in Uncategorized at 10:02 pm by GaZ

This weekend Hanne and I were down in Cardiff to run in the first ever Great Wales Run. The run was a flat-and-fast 10 kilometre course around scenic Cardiff bay, and for once it didn’t rain!

Hanne and I were both satisfied with our times of 01:07:52 (2076th) and 00:51:03 (783rd and the fastest of 4 Westerns competing in the event!) respectively. Ian, a friend from work, managed to complete the course in 00:46:00 (396th)! Well done him! All in all it’s been a good weekend.

Breakfast Special
Dad found this (a dead gecko) in the bottom of his morning cup of coffee the other day. Maybe he should switch to tea instead.

Ping Pong For Peace!

“We don’t want to be provoked into a ping-pong game, although of course the Russian side will provide a necessary response.”

- Dmitri Peskov, Spokesman for Russian President Vladimir Putin regarding the recent expulsion of several Russian diplomats from the UK

Excellent idea! If only all the world’s problems could be solved over a game of ping pong… Although I guess that would mean that asian countries would have a much bigger say in everything.

BTW: Ping pong is not the same as table tennis!

The rain in Aquitaine…

… fell mainly on us. But we did have a couple of nice days towards the end of the week. Pictured in the photo is the gîte mum and dad rented. They spent the first of two weeks there looking for a new house, which they found in a nice little village of Lascazères, so congratulations to them! I guess I’ll have to brush up my French within the next year or two (or however long it is until dad retires).

Speaking of languages, I “passed” the Norwegian class I’ve been taking for the past few months. Jeg er flink! Although by “passed” I mean I happened to show up for the last lesson when they were handing out certificates. Now I’ve got a couple of months to keep practising before Hanne and I head over to Norway for her grandfather’s 90th birthday celebrations.

But before then I’ve also got to whip myself back in to a bit of shape after the overindulgence of beers and wines last week. The Great North Run is looming on the horizon, and Hanne and I are also taking part in the (shorter) Great Wales Run in Cardiff at the end of this month. Hmm… I’d better go for a run.
