I’ve done a couple of half-marathons and thought they were pretty tough, so I can’t even begin to imagine running both the London AND Paris marathons in the same month. But that’s exactly what Kaveh’s gonna try and do, less than 2 weeks from now. Oh, and he’s also going to run 300 miles between the two cities!!
At the time of writing he’s a little short of his target sponsorship amount though, so if you would like to sponsor something towards his challenge then please click the link below, or do it through the official site at paris2london.com. He even got a word of praise from none other than Mr. T himself (see the video on the main site)!
I tried to login to my EDF MyAccount today to check what to expect on our next gas and electricity bill, but I couldn’t remember my login details (username, password, and PIN). I clicked the usual “forgot your password / pin?” link expecting to be given some kind of form to fill in in order to be able to reset my password, but instead was informed that I had to call customer services. When I phoned them up and explained the situation, instead of resetting my details the man on the phone was able to give them straight to me! I only had to provide a few basic details in order to get this far, which leaves me quite concerned that anyone could call up and get them quite easily. And that the customer service people themselves have access to all that unencrypted data!
I guess it’s not a huge deal as there isn’t much you can do from the MyAccount panel, other than change my billing details, view my energy usage, or claim my precious Nectar points, but it still doesn’t seem right.
Update: I called them back again as, foolishly, I forgot to write down my PIN code. Whoever I spoke to this time informed me that they could not give out such details over the phone, due to the Data Protection Act. When I mentioned that the person I’d spoken to before had given out all my details without hesitation he apathetically replied “I’ll get someone to look into that”… yeah, right.
In an attempt to publish something useful on this blog, here’s a little Ant macrodef to fetch the last changed revision number from Subversion. It’s quite similar to some other suggestions I found.
This weekend Hanne and I were down in Cardiff to run in the first ever Great Wales Run. The run was a flat-and-fast 10 kilometre course around scenic Cardiff bay, and for once it didn’t rain!
Hanne and I were both satisfied with our times of 01:07:52 (2076th) and 00:51:03 (783rd and the fastest of 4 Westerns competing in the event!) respectively. Ian, a friend from work, managed to complete the course in 00:46:00 (396th)! Well done him! All in all it’s been a good weekend.
… fell mainly on us. But we did have a couple of nice days towards the end of the week. Pictured in the photo is the gîte mum and dad rented. They spent the first of two weeks there looking for a new house, which they found in a nice little village of Lascazères, so congratulations to them! I guess I’ll have to brush up my French within the next year or two (or however long it is until dad retires).
Speaking of languages, I “passed” the Norwegian class I’ve been taking for the past few months. Jeg er flink! Although by “passed” I mean I happened to show up for the last lesson when they were handing out certificates. Now I’ve got a couple of months to keep practising before Hanne and I head over to Norway for her grandfather’s 90th birthday celebrations.
But before then I’ve also got to whip myself back in to a bit of shape after the overindulgence of beers and wines last week. The Great North Run is looming on the horizon, and Hanne and I are also taking part in the (shorter) Great Wales Run in Cardiff at the end of this month. Hmm… I’d better go for a run.
Backslap Club has recently made their first tracks available for download on their MySpace page. Who would have thought Dave had such a voice, eh? Great stuff, bro!
As Hesam mentioned, we’ve moved our websites over to a new host. Rather than muck about with my messy old setup, I decided to scratch the lot (except the blog entries and comments) and start with a nice, fresh installation of Wordpress 2.1! As you might notice, this means I’ve lost my blogroll, however I should get the links back up within a few days. Let me know if I’ve forgotten yours! I’ve also gotta decide what I’m going to do about the old photo Gallery. I can’t decide between FlickR or hosting it all myself.
In other news, Hanne and I have just returned from a weekend in Wales, after celebrating a recent promotion at work. w00t! Everything else is going swimmingly.
